SWORDS Bible Study: Why Is Paul Your Apostle? (He was not one of the 12!) PART 12

(SWORDS: Strong Women Of Rightly Dividing Studies)

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We will continue with our study of the differences in the gospel given to the 12 Apostles of Israel during Jesus Christs earthly ministry, and the gospel given to the Apostle Paul by the Risen Jesus Christ from heaven.

The Apostle Paul and the Apostle James according to many religions are supposed to be presenting the exact same gospel. WHAT? How can that be based on what is clearly said differently by them both? This is the best part of rightly dividing. NO more confusion.

1Co_14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Take a look at this works confusion that mixes up a lot of people who live under a WORKS BASED RELIGION, and those who are told they are under grace, but MUST have good works to SHOW they are saved.
The Apostle James is an Apostle to ISRAEL. His epistle is written to and says this is to the TWELVE TRIBES OF ISRAEL which are scattered abroad.
It is clear by the address that James AUDIENCE is the remnant of Israel! Those who were scattered abroad. Acts 8:1

That is NOT us folks. YOU are not of the 12 tribes of Israel. YOU are NOT Israel!

Israel was under the LAW…and James was teaching under the LAW. James statements are correct statements because he was making them to ISRAEL. Works were REQUIRED under the LAW to SHOW THEIR FAITH to God and others.

Jas_2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will SHEW thee MY FAITH BY MY WORKS.

Jas_2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Jas_2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, SO faith WITHOUT WORKS IS dead also.

The Apostle Paul is the apostle of the GENTILES; YOU & ME.
We are the new Creature, the BODY OF CHRIST!

Rom_11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I AM THE APOSTLE OF THE GENTILES, I magnify mine office:

2Co_5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Gal_6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a NEW CREATURE.

1Co_12:27 Now YE are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

      Paul tells us this:

Gal_2:16 Knowing that a man is NOT JUSTIFIED BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW, but BY THE FAITH OF Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified BY the faith of Christ, and NOT BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW: FOR BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW SHALL NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED.

2Ti_1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, NOT according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

      Tit_3:5 NOT by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

The difference is that today we all REST in the finished work of Christ on the cross! WE are NOT showing our faith by our works, but by our faith in the finished work of Christ! To Him all the glory!

Gal_6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Totally DIFFERENT teachings, to different peoples. Why?

Because James was still speaking under the law to Israel. His gospel was to the CIRCUMCISION. To the Jews.

Paul was preaching to the Gentiles. We know from the Scriptures that the Apostle Paul did NOT get the gospel of the grace of God from Peter or from any of the other 11 Apostles, or ANY other man. Paul got the gospel of the grace of God DIRECTLY BY REVELATION FROM THE RISEN JESUS CHRIST.

Gal 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
Gal 1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but BY the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Have you been taught that if you do not do works, or do not continue to show your good works, you may not have been saved?
Or, that it is about YOUR performance, or that YOUR life must have EVIDENCE for others, OR, that you are saved OR KEPT saved BY your good works? OR, you can only be saved by ceasing from a sinful lifestyle?

Quite a bit to unravel here, but it is important because I believe it will help to show what is the glorious truth to those who have learned how to rightly divide the word of truth. (2 Tim 2:15)

Today we know that good works never saved anyone. It is and ALWAYS has been by faith in the word of God. Believing what God said was right and true and necessary in each dispensation to have a relationship with God. Remember, God never changes, but His instructions to man, does indeed change.
God instructed Israel to do ALL the statutes (LAW), and He would preserve them. If Israel obeyed God’s laws, observing ALL His commandments, it would be to their righteousness.
They first had to believe God and then they had to prove this faith by keeping ALL His commandments. It was faith AND works. Look here:

Deu 6:24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
Deu 6:25 And it shall be our righteousness, IF we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
ISRAEL was not saved by their works and they did not know or believe in Christ. They put their faith in what God told them and what He told them REQUIRED their obedience in the WORKS OF THE LAW, as you can see above!

As we know, no one can keep the law, it was designed to show them that they needed a Saviour. Once the Saviour came, we no longer needed the taskmaster of the Law, because Jesus Christ our Saviour put us all under grace for believing on Him and what He did FOR us.

The difference is that WE are NOT under the Law. We are under grace by faith alone. Without the requirement of having to prove ourselves through our works, because we now are resting in the finished work Christ did on the cross for our salvation!

The Apostle James taught that with patience THEIR perfection/salvation WILL come. They had to have patience!

Jas 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh PATIENCE.
Jas 1:4 But let PATIENCE have her perfect work, that ye MAY BE perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

The Apostle Paul teaches that WE ARE COMPLETE NOW…with a PRESENT salvation! The works of the Law are no longer against us!

Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Col 2:10 And YE ARE COMPLETE IN HIM, which is the head of all principality and power:

      Col 2:14 BLOTTING OUT the handwriting of ORDINANCES (WORKS/LAW) that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, NAILING IT TO HIS CROSS;

This is WHY we ONLY glory in the cross of Christ! (Gal 6:14)

Next week…An interruption in Why Is Paul Your Apostle for “So, why do we do good works today?”
