      Pick Your Battles

Controversies, debates, and conspiracies abound. Take your pick!

The top controversy for many people of late has been who let the air out of a football in the AFC championship game.

Raise the issue of “deflate-gate” and there will be men at arms confronting each other with vociferous opinions, defence, and rebuttal.

Everyone now knows the correct air pressure of an NFL football, how they are supplied, and whose name is stamped on them.

Raise the issue of the deity of Christ being impugned, and you will see evidence of misplaced priorities. Hardly anyone knows there is a debate, no one knows the details, and no one wants to talk about it.

This phenomenon is not only found among sports lovers.

Raise the issue of government largesse, and a crowd of political activists will sign up, canvass, and utter detailed political-economic arguments.

Raise the issue of the Bible being corrected, spiritual gifts, covenant teaching, or the importance of the mystery of Christ, and Christians are silent, push it under the rug, and do not have a thing to say for the sake of going along to get along.

You can tell what sets people afire by which controversies they passionately pursue. Do you passionately investigate the important issues of the Bible, as much as the issues in the news?

There are many battles to fight. If you’re going to make a defence, pick the right battles, and fight them on the right battleground.

Make your defence for the gospel of Christ, God’s perfectly preserved word, and the bold declaration of the mystery of the gospel (Eph 6:19; 1 Tim 3:13).

“…inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.” – Phil 1:7

The battle for souls and minds in the truth is the most important you can fight for the Lord.

There is more hot-air being released from pulpits every week than ever was let out in New England. Where’s the outcry?

Taking a stand is good, if it is for a good thing.

If you are saved, and know the mystery of Christ, then there is no greater stand that you can make than to stand fast on the Bible rightly divided.

      For His glory,

      Justin “standing” Johnson
