      Christ the Object of Faith

There are many ways to preach Christ. Many are wrong.

A popular way to preach Christ is as an example of faith. This teaching says Christ came and lived a righteous life, as a pattern for the rest of us.

The first problem with this way of preaching Christ is that he, being God, was without sin. There is no man that can be like Christ in this regard.

Secondly, Christ did not come to be an example of faith, but to be the object of faith.

The Lord came to be the Messiah to Israel, and the Saviour of the world. He came to die and resurrect according to the mystery.

We do not find our hope by following the pattern of Christ. Our faith and hope is in Christ himself.

If what we learn from Christ is merely a holy example and not the power of his death and resurrection in us then we have missed Christ.

“Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.” – 2 Corinthians 5:16

      For His glory,

      Justin Curtis Johnson
