The Cure for Religion

The word religion is found five times in the Bible. Each place teaches us something about religion.

Religion operates under strict enforcement of law; violence is an acceptable method of persuasion; tradition abounds; it is often vain; and it requires good works.

On the other hand, the word grace is found over one hundred times in Paul’s ministry.

Grace is used in the context of phrases such as “not under the law”, and the “gospel of peace”.

The apostle of grace teaches: “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ” (Col 2:8).

Elsewhere Paul says, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us” (Titus 3:5).

Clearly the cure for religion is grace.
