How Do You Know Truth?
by Mari
How do you KNOW what is truth and what is not?
Is there any way that two people can agree to what is the truth, definitively? To essentially have the same mind? (1 Cor 1:10)
Jesus said in: Joh_14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
I believe what Jesus said here is truth, because I choose to believe by faith in the word of God, in the completed Bible we can read and study. (Ro 10:17)
Do you believe Jesus is the truth?
If you do, you are saying that you too by faith believe the word of God. Therefore, we would be in agreement that the Bible is our base, our plumbline for knowing the truth, being able to have the same mind.
So let us look deeper. The statement Jesus made in Joh 14:6 is the truth. HE is the truth, and the life.
Do you also agree and believe that Jesus is the minister to the circumcision (Jews)?
That He came to minister to the circumcision to confirm the promises made unto the fathers (i.e. Israel)?
The word of God tells us this is the truth plainly.
Rom 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:
Do you agree that Jesus came only to the house (nation) of Israel?
The word of God tells us this truth plainly.
Mat_15:24 But he [Jesus] answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Jesus Christ was ONLY sent to the house of Israel. In point of fact, Jesus was NOT sent to the Gentiles. He even told the Apostles NOT to go to the Gentiles, but only to the Jews, to the house of Israel.
You will only be able to see and believe this if indeed the word of God IS your plumbline. As the word of God plainly states:
Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: (Because Samaritans were a mixture of Jew and Gentile, and as we have seen, Gentiles were off limits.)
Mat 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
If you were not a Jew, you were a Gentile, and the Gentiles were without Christ, aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world! If a Gentile wanted to have the same closeness and access to God that Israel had, they had to become a Proselyte (and therefore no longer a Gentile) (Mat 23:15; Acts 6:5), a believer under Israel and the Law, as the word of God tells us plainly:
Eph_2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Jesus’ earthy ministry was to Israel. Israel was to take the gospel of the kingdom to the whole world, to unbelieving Jews first and eventually to the unbelieving nations of the world. (Gentiles) However, Israel rejected Christ as their Saviour and crucified Him.
A major change occurred and Israel was set aside for a time. Their fall was our gain!
Rom 11:15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
Rom 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
Rom 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
We did NOT become Israel. All the promises God made to Israel will be fulfilled in the future, but in the meantime, things completely changed.
The risen Jesus Christ from Heaven, called Saul of Tarsus, later to be called Paul, to be the Apostle to the Gentiles. To take the gospel of the grace of God to the whole world!
Now there is no more Jew or Gentile, but the door is opened to ANYONE who will believe on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ by grace through faith alone unto salvation!
We who believe become the new creature, the body of Christ. No longer looking for an earthly kingdom, but a heavenly one!
Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Eph 2:5 even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Eph 2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Eph 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
2Co_5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Gal_6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Believing the word of God, we now understand that we cannot follow Jesus in His earthly ministry to Israel, under the Law. His earthly ministry was NOT to us, but to Israel. We are NOT under the Law, but under grace. Jesus was under the law and came to fulfill the Law.
Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Rom_6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
We see that the Apostle Paul, a man born out of due time, received the gospel of the grace of God directly from the risen Jesus Christ, and explains to us that we do NOT follow Christ after the flesh.
Act_20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
2Co 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
And Paul explains why this is so, because a new thing has happened! The mystery is revealed!
Col_1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
And no longer is the gospel of the kingdom here on earth to be preached at this time, because as the new creature, the body of Christ we have a new mission!
2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
He has made us ministers and ambassadors for Christ to the world, and having made Him to be sin for us…that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him!
2Co 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
2Co 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
If we read and study the word of God rightly divided, there is no confusion! Our God is not the author of confusion. (1 Cor 14:33)
We can know the truth through faith in the word of God.
If you have never been taught this it is because of one of three reasons. Those who teach in ignorance, or those who do not hold a love for the truth, or those who hold the truth deceitfully. (2 Thess 2:10; 2 Cor 4:2)
