So how do they celebrate communion?  Do they have a meal together?  Or is it literally just meeting together?  I went to a church today and walked out before communion as just feel it is too religious and feel uncomfortable taking it and uncomfortable not taking it.  Listened to a few of Justin sermon’s on it.  Need to listen to them again, but I thought they met for a meal.  That would make sense.   What does everyone else do in their churches?

Sharleen: If you’re asking in general: In my experience, they pass out the “bread” (some sort of tiny wafer cracker) and “wine” (grape juice) and have a Scripture reading, usually 1 Cor 11. In both Christian churches I’ve been in, there was a time of personal reflection to confess sin. Pastor Kurth doesn’t do that; he doesn’t believe in it. I recently asked him why (for I was shocked that he didn’t). He said that Christ paid it all & we should be focusing on Him & what He did, not ourselves. If you need more of his explanation, I’ll be happy to find the e-mail & copy & paste it to you.

The partaking of the Lord’s Supper is a privileged memorial that the Body of Christ can enjoy and fellowship in, as it demonstrates oneness and unity in the Body of Christ. It is to be taken with an attitude of gratitude to Christ, our Head, for what He accomplished for us on the Cross. Paul rebuked the Corinthians for their dishonor and disregard for each other during this sacred occasion. They had despised the Body of Christ and brought shame to members  of the Body by their actions as evident in  1 Cor. 11:20-22. We are to keep in mind His position as Head of the Body, and His coming again as we celebrate. It’s all about Christ, and isn’t it such a joy that Christ has included us in such a personal union with Him.

Hi ladies, Sharleen, I agree with Pastor Kurth in that Communion/The Lord’s Supper is a time to reflect on Christ and what He did for us. Remember Christ said in 1 Corinthians 11:24-25, each time He had given thanks for  the bread and wine, He said “this do in remembrance  of me.” We don’t need to reflect on ourselves for personal confession. We are the Body of Christ and has already been forgiven. Besides, if we need to confess something to Christ, we do that to Him and not the congregation. It is solely for remembrance on Christ and His gift to us, and also to fellowship with Christ’s Body. The Lord’s Supper and Communion is one and the same. Communion is mentioned in the 10th chapter of Corinthians, and The Lord’s Supper is mentioned in the 11th chapter. It is not the same as the Passover the Lord took with His disciples in Luke 22:14-20. The Lord’s Supper in Corinthians was a special revelation given to Paul by Christ for the Body of Christ as evident in 11:23. In the book, Basic Bible Doctrines by Donald Webb, there’s a teaching on the Doctrines of the Bible and The Lord’s Supper is one of them.

I own it/have read it & Don Webb seems pretty doctrinally sound. I’ve also had the privilege of hearing him preach & getting to know him. Great guy! Here’s here in Indiana about an hour and a half away from me and I would definitely make the effort to go hear him on a Sunday morning

To Canada, I would suggest that you purchase Webb’s book on Basic Bible Doctrines, It’s a whole chapter on The Lord’s Supper. It is a privilege to partake in this sacred occasion, however, it’s not an ordinance as the Passover was to the Jews. In 1 Corinthins 11:23, Paul said he received of the Lord, so this was a special revelation given to Paul for the Body Of Christ

GR – Hello my friend.  I was just reading those verses on the weekend – in church – when the sermon was letting me down and we were going to have communion and I was thinking the same thoughts as you.  What is this about eating unworthy, and damnation and referring the the Lords supper?  I don’t know who Don Webb is but it would be worth looking into his book.  About to get a credit card with US dollars on it to take overseas (Vietnam)so can use that to buy some grace resources, as currently all sites only receive US dollars.  Be so good to get some books including a hard copy of things that differ.
